African Qualifying Overview
The African qualifiers for the 2026 FIFA World Cup commenced on November 15, 2023, and will conclude in November 2025. With nine guaranteed spots due to the tournament expansion, each group winner automatically advances to the World Cup. The qualifiers consist of ten matchdays, including combined dates for the playoff semifinals and final.
First-Round Fixtures and Results
The first-round fixtures and results for the African qualifiers are as follows:
Matchday 1 (November 15-18, 2023)
- Equatorial Guinea 1-0 Namibia (Group H)
- Rwanda 0-0 Zimbabwe (Group C)
The second round and subsequent matchdays will be announced by CAF in due course.
Intercontinental Play-offs
At the conclusion of the African qualifiers, one African nation will participate in the FIFA Intercontinental Play-offs. The play-offs will determine the final participants from other confederations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
