Denver Nuggets superstar Nikola Jokic put on a show in Game 1 of their Western Conference semifinal series against the Minnesota Timberwolves, dropping 41 points to lead his team to a 116-107 victory. The reigning MVP hit 15-of-25 from the field and added 15 rebounds and 7 assists.
Jokic was dominant from the start, scoring 13 points in the first quarter to help the Nuggets take an early lead. He continued to attack the basket throughout the game, drawing fouls and converting at the free-throw line. The Serbian big man also dished out several key assists, finding open teammates for easy baskets.
Rookie Christian Braun also had a big game for the Nuggets, scoring 19 points on 7-of-10 shooting. Braun made a highlight-reel play in the second quarter, posterizing Rudy Gobert with a thunderous dunk. Gobert, who is one of the best defensive players in the NBA, was helpless to stop Braun's momentum.
The Timberwolves were led by Anthony Edwards, who scored 21 points. D'Angelo Russell added 19 points, and Karl-Anthony Towns had 17 points and 11 rebounds. However, the Nuggets' defense was too much for the Timberwolves to overcome.
Denver now has a 1-0 lead in the series, and they will host Game 2 on Tuesday night. The Timberwolves will need to make some adjustments if they want to even the series and have a chance to advance to the Western Conference Finals.
