Early Life and Military Service
James David Vance (born August 2, 1984, Middletown, Ohio) is a Republican politician and the current junior United States Senator for Ohio. He is best known for his 2016 memoir, Hillbilly Elegy, which chronicles his experiences growing up in Middletown.
After graduating high school, Vance enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served for four years. He subsequently earned a bachelor's degree from Ohio State University and a law degree from Yale Law School.
Political Career
Vance was elected to the U.S. Senate in 2022, defeating Democratic incumbent Tim Ryan. He is a member of the Republican Party and is considered a strong supporter of former President Donald Trump.
In 2024, Vance was selected as the Republican nominee for Vice President, running alongside presidential candidate Donald Trump.
