Onam Celebrations in full swing in Kochi’s Thrikkakara Temple
Thiruvonam, the most important day of Onam, was celebrated with fervour and gaiety at the Thrikkakara Temple in Kochi on Saturday.
Thousands of devotees thronged the temple to witness the traditional rituals and cultural programmes. The temple premises were decorated with colourful flowers and traditional lamps.
The main attraction of the day was the ceremonial procession of the deity, Lord Vamana. The deity was taken out in a golden chariot, accompanied by traditional musicians and dancers.
Devotees also participated in the traditional 'Ona Sadya', a feast served on plantain leaves. The 'Ona Sadya' is a special meal prepared with a variety of dishes, including rice, sambar, rasam, payasam, and pappadam.
Onam is a harvest festival celebrated in Kerala to mark the return of King Mahabali, a legendary king who is said to visit his people on this day. The festival is celebrated with a variety of cultural events, including boat races, traditional dances, and music.
