Technique MotoGP Aragon Yamaha: Fabio Quartararo’s Aerodynamic Evolution

Quartararo and Yamaha Continue Aerodynamic Evolution in Aragon

Fabio Quartararo is no stranger to adapting his Yamaha YZR-M1 to suit his riding style. The 2021 MotoGP World Champion is constantly providing Yamaha engineers with feedback to help develop the bike, and one of the main areas of focus for the 2022 season has been aerodynamics.

At the recent Aragon Grand Prix, Quartararo and his team debuted a new aerodynamic package that included several modifications to the front and rear of the bike. These changes were designed to improve the M1's stability and downforce, especially under braking and corner entry.

While the new aero package did not produce a dramatic improvement in Quartararo's results, he did finish the race in fifth place, which was his best result since the summer break. More importantly, the new package provides valuable data that will help Yamaha continue to develop the M1 for the remainder of the season and into 2023.

Quartararo's Aerodynamic Modifications

The most noticeable change to Quartararo's M1 was the addition of a new front wing. The new wing is larger than the previous version, and it features a more aggressive shape. This change is designed to increase downforce at the front of the bike, which should help improve stability under braking and corner entry.

Another change made to the front of the bike was the addition of new side fairings. The new fairings are narrower than the previous version, and they feature a more aerodynamic shape. This change is designed to reduce drag and improve the M1's top speed.

Finally, several changes were made to the rear of the bike. The most noticeable change is the addition of a new rear wing. The new wing is larger than the previous version, and it features a more aggressive shape. This change is designed to increase downforce at the rear of the bike, which should help improve traction and acceleration.

Early Results and Future Development

The new aero package did not produce a dramatic improvement in Quartararo's results at Aragon, but it did show some promise. Quartararo finished the race in fifth place, which was his best result since the summer break.

More importantly, the new package provides valuable data that will help Yamaha continue to develop the M1 for the remainder of the season and into 2023. Yamaha has already announced that it will be bringing a new aero package to the next race at Motegi, and it is likely that Quartararo will continue to provide valuable feedback as the season progresses.
